From February 3 to 7, 2025, the Bouwbeurs (Construction fair), the largest event in the construction sector, will take place. Naturally, GB will be present. Various new anchoring products will be showcased, along with many other innovations. At GB's booth, it will be clear that GB is a key partner for sustainable anchoring solutions and a valuable contributor to accelerating industrial construction processes. Additionally, the updated advisory tool for calculating anchorages will be officially launched.

Contributing to more efficient construction is a key goal for GB. As a specialist in anchoring and connecting, GB continuously examines construction processes and seeks ways to improve them. GB also adapts to new and evolving construction methods. At the Construction Fair, a demo house will be featured, incorporating CLT walls and HSB elements. Furthermore, we will present a practical setup showcasing a CLT wall combined with GB's products.

CLT Construction

Building with CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) is becoming increasingly common in the Netherlands. Naturally, in countries where this technique originates, such as Austria, Italy, and Germany, there is extensive knowledge about detailing and anchoring. “Nevertheless, we’ve also received inquiries about it,” says Arjan van Termeij, Project Leader of Technology and Development at GB. “In collaboration with the industry, we’ve developed a lot. We’ve primarily ‘Dutchified’ it. In other countries, construction methods and requirements differ. In the Netherlands, we aim to build apartment complexes right away and work efficiently. The speed of assembly is crucial here, of course, without compromising structural integrity.”

Timber Frame Construction

In addition to CLT, GB is also showcasing updated products for timber frame construction. “We are noticing changes in this area as well. Previously, the concrete shell was built first, followed by the placement of a facade-filling timber frame (HSB) element later. Nowadays, facade elements are increasingly integrated directly into the structural shell, with the floor above being added afterward. This is often done to enable scaffold-free construction. This requires a different anchoring method, specifically at the top. For this purpose, the Instortbovendorpelanker (IBA) was developed. We have also optimized our HSB floor strips for the underside.”

GB Advisory Tool

In addition to an extensive product range, GB also offers an advanced advisory tool for window frame anchorages, soon to include cavity wall anchorages as well. What originally started as a calculation tool for window frame anchorages has been expanded into a comprehensive advisory tool. Soon, users will be able to calculate the appropriate cavity wall anchorages quickly and accurately. The new advisory tool offers even more functionality, including BIM integration. This feature allows users to import window frames directly from a BIM model into the advisory tool, enabling fast and precise anchoring recommendations. Over the coming year, the tool will also be expanded to include anchoring solutions for timber frame construction elements.

With this advisory tool, GB aims to promote a responsible approach to anchoring. “According to the KVT standards, the responsibility for anchoring window frames lies with the timber factory. However, this responsibility often shifts to the builder. We provide the correct calculations, which also serve as a justification for compliance with the Dutch Quality Assurance for Building Act (Wkb)."

For large-scale residential construction, we have created a brochure that provides practical solutions for window frame anchoring.

Sliding Door

But that’s not all. “We’re showcasing much more—not just products, but also, for example, how to properly anchor a sliding door, especially at the bottom, and what can go wrong if it’s not done correctly,” says Arjan van Termeij.
